Adopt from Rescue Organization

Rescue Organizations are non-profit and privately run. Some concentrate on certain breeds and some accept everything they can.

fundraising poster for corridorrescue.orgSome will rescue only in-state or local dogs while others accept dogs from all over the world. Some will only allow adoptions by people located close enough for a home visit and some have the resources to deal with national adoptions.

Some have five volunteers doing the work and some have hundreds.

Some have volunteers who scout the high-kill shelters each day for dogs nearing their euthanasia date.

All rely on volunteers to provide foster homes to dogs while it awaits adoption. The dogs live at home with the foster which makes for a grand opportunity for the foster to get to know the dog. This added insight allows for the likelihood of successful adopts but only if the humans are paying attention to the right signals.
